To be a Nebraska video company and have the chance to work with Nebraska Arts Council is something that is truly special. The NAC is sponsoring a truly inspiration program. The Creative Aging Arts Program ‘provides grants to hire an artist to lead workshops at senior centers, assisted living facilities, libraries and nonprofit organizations serving older adults.’ (NAC)
Last summer we took our Nebraska video company on the road!! We were able to meet the origami class in Seward. The acting troupe in Omaha. And the mandala artists in Lexington. I think so often in life our elderly population can be forgot and even marginalized. Which is why this program is so utterly unique and necessary. Libraries and nursing homes around our great state have the ability to bring highly trained artists into their facilities and hold classes for the aging. Seeing how determined and talented these older students was so life affirming. That’s how I want to be. Fully engaged and motivated. Participating in life at a time when your body starts slowly down. Stretching your mind in ways that you maybe never thought possible. Out of the amazing men and woman I met I’m reminded of the 94 year old man that played Oberon in a condensed version of Midsummer Nights Dream that was performed at Notre Dame Housing in North Omaha. He was sharp as whip and inspiring.
While aging is a natural part of life, the way that our attitude is about it can profoundly make the difference in our quality of life. These programs our powerful ways to support our older adults. They promote mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing through artistic engagement. We were so honored to be a part of this and spread the word about this amazing program!
