Whenever someone approaches us about Omaha Non-Profit videos, I’m immediately curious of their mission and their passion. When I was approached two years ago this client told me it was a video for the Dr. Susan La Flesche Picotte Memorial Hospital, I had sadly never heard of the hospital or Dr. Susan La Flesche Picotte. She was not only the first female Native American doctor in Nebraska, but it’s speculated she was the first Nebraska doctor, male or female. So much of Native American history in our state is completely missed and neglected, but his a brilliant step in a good direction for the preservation of a Nebraska legacy. Several people in our state are renovating the Dr. Susan La Flesche’s original hospital in Walthill, NE. It’s a remarkable and inspiring story which is brilliantly written about by Nebraska’s own Joe Starita in his book ‘A Warrior of the People’.
